Before getting into depth let’s have a quick look at what is a goal and its importance.

A goal is an objective or target that an individual attempts to reach or achieve with proper planning and management. When we set goals, we envision, plan for and commit to achieving these desired results because our lives include many different parts. Life goals can be broad, including things like relationship goals, career goals, financial goals, and many more.

Setting life goals is an important part of what it means to be alive and achieving them can feel rewarding or even generate a greater sense of purpose and meaning.

The Steps to be followed to achieve the most ambitious goal:

SET A GOAL

Irrespective of the goal being short-term or long-term, Be confident and aim high. Remember every step starts from ground zero. There is no limit to aiming at many goals but planning, management and consistency are the priority. Setting a goal cheers you to take up new challenges.

SET A SMART GOAL.

Setting a goal is one task but choosing a goal is an important factor.  A strong foundation is a key to long-term success. Here is how you can choose the goal.

By Applying the concept of S.M.A.R.T GOAL by Peter Drucker.

Specific  (simple, sensible, significant)

Set a specific goal.

Be specific about the goal, and Do brief research. Be precise and know more details about it.  Be prepared to face any consequences.

Before setting up a goal be answerable to yourself  to five "W" questions:

What do you want to accomplish?

Why is this goal important?

Who is involved?

Where is it located?

For  Instance, If you are running a business what is your goal in it, do you want to increase your customers if so,  be specific that you want to increase X number of Customers in a particular month or a year, and  On which part of service you want to focus on.

Measurable  (meaningful, motivating)

Set a measurable goal.

Know the skill you need which helps you to achieve the goal.Set a bar in each step.

A measurable goal should address questions such as:

How much?

How many?

How will you know when it is accomplished?

Achievable (agreed, attainable)

Set an achievable goal.

Set a goal that you can reach. Though you want to set a complex goal it is important to know whether you can achieve it or not. Check the probability of achieving it then commit.

An Achievable goal should address questions such as:

What will be the challenges?

What is the probability of achieving it?

How can I accomplish this goal?

How realistic is the goal, based on other constraints, such as financial factors?

For Instance, Currently, your small business revenue is fifty thousand bucks and you aim to increase revenue to one million bucks by the end of the year. In this case, though the goal is specific, the probability of achieving the goal is less than losing because of the time-bound.

Relevant(reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based)

Set a Relevant goal.

It is important to know about your goal productivity. Analyze the goal in which you are going to invest your time, hard work, resources, etc to accomplish the goal. After accomplishment of the goal if it doesn’t profit you in any form there is no point in setting it up. This step is very important while setting the goal which helps you to know the benefits of the goal.

A Relevant goal should address questions such as:

Does this seem worthwhile?

Is this the right time?

Does this match our other efforts/needs?

Am I the right person to reach this goal?

Is it applicable in the current socio-economic environment?

Time Bound(time-based, time-limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive)

Specify your target date or time frame when the results can be achieved.

WAY AHEAD

Visualize your goal and have a strategy. Make an action plan, note down every task in detail, prioritize the tasks, and set the deadlines. The action plan acts as a checklist for the task you need to accomplish to achieve the goal and also provides a smooth route to achieve the goals and keeps you on track without any distractions or obstacles. When you have actionable steps to take, achieving your goals becomes more realistic and realizable.

A French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said  “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

For instance, If you want to start a business. You need to set goals and prioritize them.

(i) The requirement and ways to provide better service to the customer.

(ii) Proper management of men & materials.

(iii) Expansion of business

(iv) Ways to improve the turnover of the business

KEEP MILESTONES

Milestones are considered tiny achievements within the goal. While you set a goal it is important to break your goal into tiny goals. These tiny goals are termed milestones. Whenever you reach a milestone, appreciate yourself and get a gift too. This helps you to stay focused, motivated and energetic. Remember that these milestones should not be near or too far set them in the right position.

You might be thinking about why milestones are important.

Let us consider hiking as an example. When hikers climb a hill or a mountain they will carry tiny flags along with them to mark the way which helps to keep them on track. when they lost their way when they look back they can identify through these markings.

LEARN FROM MISTAKES

If you fail to achieve your goal, always remember - "Attempt hard and keep attempting".

Mistakes are meant for learning. When you face difficulty or fail to accomplish the task despite the disappointment, lift your spirit, evaluate your moves and learn how it should be done.

“I will not say I failed 1000 times, I will say that I discovered there are 1000 ways that can cause failure.” - Thomas A Edison

STAY MOTIVATED

In every path there will be hurdles, don't expect a joyful path, instead prepare yourself to overcome them and stay motivated.

Remember the philosophy-

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE, THE WORD NOTHING ITSELF HAS POSSIBLE IN IT.

Take the courage you can and you will do it.

Even a marginal improvement in our process can have a huge impact on our end results.

ENTHUSIASTIC LEARNER

Never stop learning and have the curiosity to know new things. Read books, Read articles this not only helps you to gain knowledge but also helps you in the implementation of a plan to achieve the most ambitious goal.
